“There’s so much time in a day.
You could have breakfast, lunch, and dinner on 3 different continents.
You could outline the book you’re going to write, start the screenplay adaptation, and watch “Gone With The Wind,” before the sun even sets.
Spend a day at work, and still have 16 hours left over.
Or you could just think 60,000 different thoughts as you tool all over Schenectady.
Hey, the record for climbing Mt. Everest is under 9 hours, leaving 15 to nap and go Yeti searching. There’s so much time in a day. So much.
So now, do you really feel you do not have the time to do the important things in life? Seriously! We claim we do not have the time to go get fit because of this or that. We do not have time to spend time with family because of this or that. We never have the time for the important thing. The truth is? You do NOT want to put the time. Very simple. You have the choice. You can determine where you can allocate the time to what is important to you. It might not be life or death situation, but you still need to put time for yourself and your health.
Just imagine this. Everyday, you focus on your career and put in the hard work that is needed to get there. You put in around 17 hours per day, saying that you will get to your goals faster because of all the sacrifices you are putting in. These sacrifice includes your social life, your health, your friends, your family and so on and so forth. Let’s go with health for a moment. You work so hard that you do not have the time to exercise. Using too much brain power will make your body crave sugar to replenish your energy. Because you do not have the time to cook healthy, you go and eat crap. The calories that comes in do not go out, because of you being too busy to work-out. What happens? Yes, you are right, You are gaining weight. But wait, it doesn’t end here. Noooooo. More you work on your career, more the management team feel that you can handle more because of how determined you are to MAKE THEM MORE MONEY. So they pile up more and more work on you. Afraid to disappoint them, you abide by their request and take in the work. So what happens now? You are sleep deprived. The body wants more of the bad food to compensate for the lack of sleep. End result? Vicious cycle that brings you to the brink of depression, health issues and obesity. The body won’t handle this torture and will shut down. You will get sick, your level of absenteeism at work will be sky high and all your sacrifice for your career will end up in a ditch. Where you will end up is undetermined. Maybe back at entry level at your company with high medical bills.
So here you go. I just predicted what will happen if you ignore the signs and sacrifice your sanity for the unimportant things in life. Not saying that your career isn’t important, just saying to learn how to set your priorities straight. The rest is up to your personal judgment and logic.
